Metro News: Welcome Jesse to doNYC, Do210’s Local Music Week Feature, and Do512’s Staycation Giveaway

No comments:
Our regular Metro News updates highlight big wins, cool ideas, and notable events from around the Network so you can stay up to date on what your counterparts around the U.S., Canada, and Mexico are doing.

Welcome Jesse to doNYC!

Everybody give a big welcome to doNYC’s new Content Coordinator, Jesse Soll! Jesse started as an intern at doNYC before being put in charge of content earlier this month. Before joining doNYC, Jesse had worked editing scripts and screenplays and was an editorial assistant at Springer Publishing. He also spent time as an intern at Razor & Tie Records (home of HIM and The Sword).

We're proud to see Jesse move up from intern to Content Coordinator and are excited for the whole doNYC team!

Do210's Local Music Week Feature

May 17-23 was Local Music Week in San Antonio, and Do210 seized the opportunity with one of their most popular content pieces of all time.

Do210 reached out to 25 local Tastemakers ahead of LMW and asked them to name the three local bands they're most excited about. Then, they threw all the picks into an article with links to each band's page on Do210 so readers could find where they were playing during Local Music Week.

This curated guide was the perfect opportunity to give the Do210 Tastemakers some exposure and help them build their personal brands. Plus, when you give Tastemakers a platform for sharing their opinion, you can bet that they're going to share the content with their social networks. The article was even linked to by the official San Antonio Local Music Week Facebook page.

All of that sharing lead to Do210's second highest week of traffic ever. Congrats to the Do210 team on such a spot-on content piece!

Do512's Standalone Giveaway

You all saw our new standalone Giveaway pages in action with the Bonnaroo VIP Giveaway, but Do512 wasted no time in implementing the new splash pages on a local level.

Do512 teamed up with Texas craft brewer Karbach to offer an Austin hotel package branded around Karbach's "Staycation" seasonal beer. The winner gets a two night stay, plus dinner and concert tickets. And because it's built on a standalone Giveaway page, there's no need to attach it to a specific Event on Do512.

Exciting to see these new features put to good use so quickly!

Other News

Here's a quick rundown of other big happenings around the Network:

  • Best Coast ♥'s DoLA: DoLA's event link got RT'd by Best Coast!
  • Forecastle Aftershows Are Live: Do502 is the official home of the Forecastle Aftershows
  • Do214's Anniversary Video: Do214 put together a video recap of their 1 year birthday rager

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 5/26/15

No comments:
Thanks for everyone's patience during the last few weeks sans winners and KPI updates. Everyone's stats for the last 3 weeks are up-to-date, so check them out!

Since we've got a lot to catch up on, we'll feature a survey of a half-dozen metro wins from the past several weeks. A few of the biggest highlights:
  • Do206: Seattle had their 2nd highest week of traffic, thanks in large part to their Road to Sasquatch page. This was the second year for the content piece; this year it netted Do206 $2,000 in sponsorship dollars from Red Bull.

  • Do210: San Antonio also had their 2nd highest week of traffic, thanks to theirTastemakers' guide to Local Music Week. Integral to its success was the social traffic generated from the various featured tastemakers sharing the piece via their own social channels.

  • DoTheBay: Thanks to their always popular Scene Unseen RSVP and their killer Bay Bounty giveaway, DTB had their highest week of traffic in 7 months.

  • Do502: Joining the ranks of Do312 + Lolla, DoNYC + Gov Ball, and DoTheBay + Outside Lands, Louisville just launched their Forecastle aftershows page. It's already received 6K+ pageviews in the 2 weeks it's been up.

  • DoLA: Compared to the same previous three weeks last year, LA has 270% more traffic to site. Big drivers include RSVPs for the Grand Performance summer concert series, and the announce of FYF Fest.

  • HazDF: Their sold World Whisky Day page was their second most popular site page for all of 2015, receiving just over 6.5K pageviews thanks to strong engagement on social channels.
Great work everybody, and we'll pick up our usual Winner of the Week format on Monday.

All of the KPIs you've been missing are just a click away...

Product Update: Giveaway Winner Notifications, Registration Pop-Up Backgrounds & More

No comments:
Our biweekly Product Updates give you a rundown of all the features and bug fixes that were rolled out today - plus one handy tip of the week.

NOTIFYING WINNERS

The 'Notify Winners' buttons in Radmin giveaways will now (always) send a "You just won tickets" email to every user marked as a Winner.

We recently discovered that CMs were unable to notify more than one batch of giveaway winners on any given event in Radmin. This problem has been fixed - but it is important to note that clicking 'Notify Winners' on any giveaway will now notify all users marked as a 'Winner' - including those who have already been notified.

Therefore, you should always un-mark previously-notified winners (and check them as 'Confirmed' when appropriate) before notifying new batches of winners.

METRO-SPECIFIC REGISTRATION BACKGROUNDS

We can now add metro-specific background photos for the registration pop-up and confirmation pop-up.

By popular demand! If you'd like to switch out either or both of these photos, please email support with your new images.

The proper dimensions are 950x430 for the registration pop-up:

And 600x410 for the confirmation pop-up:

Please keep in mind that since we are not currently able to adjust the display of the text and buttons on these pop-ups, it is important to only select images that will work with the current layout.

REPEATING EVENT CHECKS

Now, single day instances of weekly events will not be placed in metros' pending queues (huzzah!). This should save CMs time, cut back on headaches and reduce duplicate events on metro sites.

Please note that the single-day events will only be recognized as dupes if they match all of the requisite qualities (time, venue, exact name and day of the week) as the weekly repeating event.

QUICK FIXES

The additions of the 'Show Upcoming' feature and the Ongoing / Repeating Events widgets have caused these numbers to be inaccurate and confusing (see above as an example) - so we're removing them.

We altered the language of Indianapolis' and St. Louis' registration pop-ups to be grammatically correct. Because we shouldn't be saying Indianapolis's edition of DoStuff - but rather Indianapolis' edition of DoStuff.

DID YOU KNOW?

Photo slideshows aren't just limited to past events. You can upload a slideshow to any upcoming event (in the same way you would a past event) and the Flickr widget will automatically display a "What's Coming" headline above your photos.

The "What's Coming" headline will automatically change to read "What You Missed" after the event has passed.

Metro News: Do415 is Now DoTheBay, Big Staff Changes at Do312, and the Mariners Host Do206 Night

No comments:
Our regular Metro News updates highlight big wins, cool ideas, and notable events from around the Network so you can stay up to date on what your counterparts around the U.S., Canada, and Mexico are doing.

We’ve had a major expansion, a few new staff additions and some reshuffles, and our first Major League Baseball partnership. Read all about it below!

Introducing DoTheBay

Do415 launched over three years ago in January 2012 to help the good people of San Francisco find more awesome stuff to do each day. But sure enough it was becoming harder to match the Do415 brand with their growing audiences in Oakland, Berkeley, Santa Rosa, San Jose, and other parts of the greater Bay Area.

So with a lot of planning and preparation, Do415 made the switch to DoTheBay on May 1st. Now, in addition to serving the city of San Francisco, their site also covers all the East Bay, North Bay, and South Bay communities.

All events in the Bay Area are visible on the main DoTheBay site, but users can also narrow down their location by clicking on one of the four Lenses. It’s a really seamless method for combining all the geographic areas without overwhelming users, and one that other metros may look to copy as they expand.

As one of the oldest members of the Network, it’s exciting to see the DoTheBay team reach this milestone and we can’t wait to help them continue to grow!

Staff Changes at Do312

There have been a number of big additions and reshuffling at the Do312 office lately so we wanted to make sure you were all aware of everyone’s new roles.

First, the lovely Jeremy Scheuch is transitioning into a new role and is now Creative Consultant and Merchandise Manager for DoStuff Media. He’ll still be based in Chicago but will be helping us all step up our game with content and promotions. His new email is jeremy [at] dostuffmedia.com.

Second, our own Graham Hickey has stepped into a dual role doing sales for both the DoStuff Network and Do312. Your relationship with him coordinating programs in your local market won’t change, but he’ll also be running local sales for Do312 at the same.

Third, Scott Cramer has transitioned from his operations and marketing role at Do312 into the full GM position. Scott has been critical to Do312’s growth from the start so we’re excited to see him in this new role.

Finally, after 4+ years with Do312, John Simon is leaving as CM to pursue graduate studies at Northwestern University. Stepping into his shoes is Do312’s newest member, Katie Karpowicz. Katie came to us from iHeartRadio, but is no stranger to Do312. She was a Tastemaker and a blog contributor in the past, and has been covering Chicago’s music and nightlife scene for years.

Do206 Night at Safeco Field

Tuesday night was Do206 Night at the Seattle Mariners game. Jay and Rich and the Do206 team worked with the Mariners organization to turn an entire section of Safeco Field into the Do206 section.

Do206 users and friends got discounted tickets to sit in the section along with free custom-designed Mariners shirts. Local artist Shelby Earl even performed in the concourse behind the section before the game.

If you have any questions about the event be sure to reach out to Jay at Do206.

2014 Goose Island Tastemaker Series Recap

DoStuff just released the recap video from the 2014 Tastemaker Series presented by Goose Island. It does a great job of showing off to advertisers what we can do as a Network, and shows to users that we know how to party.

To share it with your audience, just RT this tweet and share this Facebook post. Thank you!

Product Update: Facebook Media Searches, Pages' Share Images & Giveaway Winner Receipts

No comments:
Our regular Product Updates give you a rundown of the features and bug fixes that were rolled out over the past week, plus a look ahead to some of the bigger changes that are on the way.

Dev has continued to work their magic to implement new features and fixes!

FACEBOOK

We've updated our media searches to prevent this error from constantly occurring:

The context: Facebook recently made some changes to their API that caused CMs' media searches to hit this error with an alarming frequency as of late - but no longer. We've updated the way with which we search for Facebook page ID to set you up for media searching success.

Please note that you may still see this error from time to time, but only with ~1% of your searches.

We added a Facebook Share Image field to /p pages.

Have an image that you would like to display whenever your /p page is shared on Facebook? Upload it to this field:

RADMIN

We fixed a glitch with our scraper system that was preventing updates to duplicate events from saving. This was happening specifically with the top line info, category and ticket info sections.

We improved our search functionality for merging events to better account for special characters such as colons and apostrophes.

We recommend filtering these emails from your inbox and using them as a reference if you have a question about which winners were selected for a giveaway (or when they were selected).

Super important item to note: In preparing this feature, we discovered that Radmin's 'Notify Winners' functionality will only send to one batch of winners per event

There is already a ticket in the DSD queue to address this and we will work to get that knocked out as soon as possible - but in the mean time, PLEASE manually email every winner that you need to notify after the first batch of winners has been notified for an event. And please let us know if you have any questions about this.

MORE STUFF

We also increased the quality of our preview cards when sharing events on Twitter, fixed the way that age-gated pages display on ECPs, added Google Analytics events for our Onpeating Events Widgets and improved the speed with which an event's 'Buy' buttons will update after its on-sale time has passed.

Onward and upward. ROCK.

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 5/4/15

No comments:
Do312 KO'd the competition and gets the Winner of the Week title belt for the crazy amount of traffic to their "Where to Watch the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Fight" page.

Of course, a piece of content like that is a total play for organic traffic, and it paid off.

Some stats as proof:
A few takeaways on why this was able to reap beaucoup organic traffic:
  1. Only a few events each year are big enough to warrant a where to watch list. Super bowl. World cup last year. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. It's helped even more by the fact that it's one huge event that that's not locale-dependent (unlike March Madness or the World Series) and that it's Pay Per View, so people really need information on where they can watch it without shelling out a bunch of cash.
  2. Do312's list was comprehensive and useful. A ton of bars and prices for each. 5 more bars than Thrillist and DNA, 8 more bars than Timeout
  3. Most importantly, they had this list together and live on site before every other result on the first search page on Google, with the exception of Thrillist, which launched on the same day. Being first with this type of informational content can be the difference between your site being the go-to for people seeking info on your city, rather than the also-ran info source.
Boiling down the above, keep these in mind when building traffic for organic search in the future: 1) choose content that will have wide appeal 2) build something with comprehensive useful information 3) build it before anybody else does.

Check out all of your audience stats below and keep working on becoming the cultural heavyweights in your city!

Metro News: Do214’s Wild Anniversary Party, DoLA’s Big Score on 4/20, and Do314 Turns 4

No comments:
Our regular Metro News updates highlight big wins, cool ideas, and notable events from around the Network so you can stay up to date on what your counterparts around the U.S., Canada, and Mexico are doing.

Here's what's been going on around the Network lately...

Do214's One Year Anniversary Party

The crew in Dallas set the bar pretty high for anniversary parties last weekend. To celebrate turning one, Do214 brought Dan Deacon, Prince Rama, Ben O’Brien, and Party Static in front of a packed house at Trees nightclub.

Do214 users could RSVP for free entry, or pay $5 for guaranteed entry, and as the pictures show they came out in force.

If you’re starting to plan your next anniversary party, check out the rest of the gallery here and starting scheming now about how you’re going to top Do214.

DoLA’s Big Score On 4/20

Not surprisingly, the 4/20 content you guys put together turned out to be some of the best performing content this month -- even better than Record Store Day. Every metro that put out 4/20 content this year had it outperform their Record Store Day content by a long shot -- in some cases by almost 10x.

But the biggest winner of them all was DoLA, whose “Guide to 4/20” content accounted for over 12% of site traffic in the week leading up to the 20th. On top of that, the guide was sponsored by a medical marijuana delivery service and feature a giveaway for some HUF “Plantlife” socks.

doNYC’s Signature Blend Shows

doNYC hosted the first two events of their Jack Daniel’s Signature Blend series this month, and both of them have packed the house.

The first, on April 13th, featured Mail The Horse and Public Access T.V. playing in front of an intimate crowd at Manhattan’s Rockwood Music Hall. The second, just this past Tuesday, brought Grand Electric and Strange Names to Brooklyn’s Good Room.

The next is this Wednesday at Webster Hall so be sure to share the RSVP with your contacts in NYC.

Boiling down the above, keep these in mind when building traffic for organic search in the future: 1) choose content that will have wide appeal 2) build something with comprehensive useful information 3) build it before anybody else does.

Metro News: Do214’s Wild Anniversary Party, DoLA’s Big Score on 4/20, and Do314 Turns 4
