Product Update: Desktop Feed, Referrals Going Live, Scraper Updates & More

No comments:
Our Product Updates give you a rundown of all the features and bug fixes that are being deployed - plus one handy tip of the week. Here's what's happening:

The Feed Comes To Desktop

The Feed - which previously has only existed on iOS - is coming to desktop next week. The Feed displays all of the posts that we’ve been calling “Latest” posts - as well as new shows for bands, venues and lists that you follow (when signed in).

Do416 What To Do In Toronto.png

We expect the addition of the personalized Feed content to lead to increased engagement, longer sessions on your site and more people finding awesome stuff to do.

Feed-Related Changes

1. This button will change from “Latest” to “Feed”.

this Button.png

2. You will add your Feed posts (FKA Latest posts) from Radmin - rather than the front end.

Feed Radmin.png

3. The process for adding Feed posts will be slightly different than Latest posts. The page from which to add your posts will look like this:

Feed UI.png

Your “Target” will be the page to which you want the post to link, your “Title” will be the title of the post, and etc. The most noticeable changes to the process are:

You will use type-ahead search to locate your “target” as opposed to pasting in a URL:

Feed Toronto Radmin – DoStuff Media.png

And, under ‘Advanced Fields’, you will find the ability to schedule a post to be published and/or removed from your Feed as desired. This was a commonly requested feature with the old Latest posts - and we’re stoked to be able to provide it now:

Advanced Fields.png

Please note that if you do not check the ‘Advanced Fields’ box and specify a Publish Date, your post will be published immediately. Similarly, if you do not set an Expiration Date, your post will remain on the feed indefinitely.

4. Once the desktop Feed is deployed to production next week, clicking the ‘Add Latest’ link on the front end of your site will pop up the Radmin Feed screen in a new window.

We’ll be exposing the Radmin ‘Feed’ feature shortly so that you can preview it and give us feedback before the front end portion goes live next week.

Referrals Going Live

Last Product Update, we promised that the giveaway referral system would be going live across the network very soon. Well, the time has come! We're making referrals live later this afternoon. Here's to new users!

Flush A Part Of Your Queues

Another feature that was widely requested at The Summit was the ability to flush a portion of the pending and/or dupes queues.

Often, one venue’s scraper will go haywire and bring in unwanted events - but that shouldn’t have to mean that you need to flush your entire queue just to remove those events.

So, you can now filter by anything in the pending and/or dupes queues and flush only the events on the page that you’re looking at.

Flush Littlefield.png

This will leave the rest of the queue unaffected - so you can quickly get back to working through the rest of the events.

Tip Of The Week

As promised, we’re going to be turning off the old ad reports next week - so our tip for this week is to make sure to use the new ad reports whenever possible and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like changed. We’ve already received a lot of awesome feedback from around the network, and we’ll make sure that all of that is reflected in the ad reports before we turn off the old ones.

If you have any questions large or small about the new ad reports, or how to best use the data from them, please let Support know.

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 7/25/16

No comments:

Winners of the Week:
Do503, DoSD, & HazTJ!

Three metro relative newbies steal the stage this week as we travel out to the West Coast tohighlight last week's winner:
  • Do503: Portland's Leafly RSVP was their anchor last week, garnering a cool 34% of their total weekly traffic. And while that benefited from heavy social promotion, their largest week-over-week gains actually came from the success of their daily emails, specifically the one announcing a giveaway to Feast Portland. Combined, they helped propel Do503 to their highest week of traffic ever, and that's not even counting the sizable chunk of Do214's audience that finds its way to Oregon and never returns.

  • DoSD: San Diego notched their second week in a row of solid traffic, but perhaps more important is their efficiency of email engagement. Though their list size has more than tripled since they launched a mere 5 months ago, they still stand at just under 11K total subscribers. Undeterred, they saw an unreal 35% CTR last week when their Comic Con badge giveaways of various forms racked up 1.3K+ clicks in their newsletter.

  • HazTJ: Proving once again that the language of METAL transcends all nations, HazTJ had their highest week of traffic ever thanks to this Facebook post announcing a Megadeth show in Tijuana. Just because announcing a big show, landing a giveaway, and putting a little money behind it on social is an old approach to building audience, that doesn't make it any less of a valid strategy. But don't trust me; trust the 38 shares, 5K organic reach, and 1.5K site visitors HazTJ netted last week.
Congrats to those 3 metros coming into their own! Did we miss a win in your market?  Or have an idea that could drive audience growth that you'd like us to test? Just respond to this email or drop it in here, and you'll be that much closer to having you and your metro singled out as Winner of the Week.

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 7/19/16

No comments:

Winners of the Week:
Do206, Do214, Do617 & DTB!

Lots of great stuff happening around the network this week! We've got a new addition to KPI update emails (so read through to the end), but we'll do several quick hits in the meantime to give each metro their time in the Winner of the Week spotlight:
  • Do206: Since Pokemon Go continues to be a thing, Seattle took their own spin on our mission of helping people find the best stuff to do by posting a crow-sourced map of all the places to catch Pokemon in Seattle. That alone accounted for 18% of their traffic last week, with 80% of that traffic coming from its feature as the top content block intheir email. Thanks to that, their click rate was 2X the average of the 3 months prior, and they hit their highest week of traffic since Sasquatch. Still seems like a ripe opportunity for someone to put together all the spots you can drink and catch Pokemon.

  • Do214: Another week, another big partnership that's bringing serious dividends to Do214. In this case, it's their Ninkasi Brewing flyaway, which received more than 20% of their total traffic last week, helping them hit 175% YoY traffic. The contest is hosted as part of their partnership with Untapped fest, which gave them a big boost of entrants when they promoted it at the top of their newsletter. The 1K+ new subscribers Dallas received from the giveaway already was enough to push their list over the 50K mark. Plus, Untapped is reaching out to all competing bands to embed the giveaway on their sites.

  • Do617: A quarter of Boston's traffic last week landed on their Luke Bryan vinyl scavenger hunt + acoustic pre-show grand prize package. Their email promoting the show saw high engagement and helped anchor their 2nd highest traffic week over the last 6 months.

  • DTB: Just as the success of Do312's Lolla aftershows is winding down for the year, DoTheBay comes roaring in with the announce of their OSL night shows. These accounted for a whopping 46% of their traffic last week, and unsurprisingly were a big hit across all of their channels. YoY their traffic to the page from email is more than double (thanks to list growth + daily emails + OSL dedicated), pushing DTB to their highest week of non-Dropbox traffic of all time
And now for a new weekly a feature! Did we miss a win or you want to check in on past audience wins of 2016?  Or have an idea to test something that could drive audience growth? Just respond to this email or drop it in here, and we'll get right on it. Shout out to Jimmy and Danielle for already submitting ideas.

Product Update: New Ad Reports, A Referral System, Email Capture Pop-Ups!

No comments:

Our Product Updates give you a rundown of all the features and bug fixes that are being deployed - plus one handy tip of the week. Here's what's happening:

New Ad Reports

The old ad reporting system is going away at the end of the month! We've built our own reporting system that we're super excited about - and here's why:

  • The old reporting system was powered by a third-party service called Keen, which frequently had service issues and/or downtime. The new system is far more reliable - meaning that it won't occasionally go offline and cause stats to go missing.
  • The new system is far better at tracking stats (especially impressions) - meaning that your ad numbers will be higher on a regular basis.
  • The new system allows you to export ad stats much more quickly than the old - meaning that you won't have to sit around waiting for the bulky old ad reports to load while you could be out selling.

Accessing The New Reports

We've left the old reports unchanged for now, so that you have time to get used to the new system and give us feedback on it before we remove the old one. To access the new ad reports, begin to pull ad stats as normal and then click this link once the 'Ad Reports' modal appears:

From there, you'll be dropped into a simple, speedy readout of your ad data.

We encourage you to check out the new ad system as soon as you can. A few important things to note about it:

1. The new ad reports stats will not be the same as the old reports. Across the board, they will almost always be higher (especially impressions - which may be as much as 3x greater) since we are tracking ads much more accurately on the new system, and not letting any stats slip through.

2. We do not yet have a way to navigate between advertisers on the new system (you have to start over from the Radmin Advertising screen) - but we will be adding that functionality very shortly.

Using the new reports for advertiser campaign recaps

The new ad reports are intended to be the quickest and easiest way to pull all the performance data you need for ads that run on your metro site and ECPs. They are not intended to replace campaign recaps you would send to an advertiser. In the same way that you would view and download data from Facebook Insights or Mailchimp, our ad reports give you the requisite data for you to combine with other channel data (email, social, etc.) to tell a compelling story of what you delivered to the advertiser during a given campaign.

To help with telling that story, we’ve created campaign recap templates for the following standard advertiser packages:

Have questions on how to work with those templates, or want us to tweak them to your metro? Reach out to support@dostuffmedia.com, and we’ll be happy to steer you in the right direction.

Referral System

Holy bananas are we excited about this! As you know, audience growth is our #1 priority of the year - and giveaways are the king of new user acquisition on our platform.

So, we are getting ready to roll out a giveaway referral system for the entire network. The referral system will allow giveaway entrants to earn extra contest entries for each new entrant they refer. More referrals mean more new users, and so on. And best of all, this system runs itself. No new work is involved.

Once referrals are turned on for your metro, giveaway entrants will see a new confirmation page that looks like this:

There will also be an invitation to refer friends inside of the giveaway confirmation email:

A note that the confirmation pop-up and email's 'share' links will also be referral URLs by default.

Every time that user successfully drives a new contest entry, (s)he will receive an email letting them know that they referred a friend. This email also includes an updated count of the user's total entries:

You will also be able to see each user's entry number (expressed as 'Score') on the giveaway's Pick Winners screen in Radmin:

You can sort your Pick Winners screens by score in order to easily select the user who drove the most entries as the winner.

Note: our developers concocted a new algorithm to also ensure that users with higher scores are more likely to appear on Pick Winners screen than others. All's fair in love and giveaways.

We’ll be rolling out the referral system within the next week. Stay tuned.

Email Capture Pop-Ups

More growth news! We've launched email capture pop-ups that allow (and encourage) users to sign up for our mailing lists directly from the sites. We've received a lot of requests for these from around the network - and so we tested them out on doNYC and Do615 to successful ends (around 3% overall conversion rate).

Users that sign up via these pop-ups will be sent a 'Welcome' email and automatically added to your main MailChimp list as normal.

The default text is shown in this screenshot - but if you'd like to personalize this text for your metro, just let Support know.

Tip of the Week

This week's tip comes to us from Victoria, BC - and the venerable Jimmy Leitch.

Did you know that you can click through on the list of 'Likes' that each of your Facebook posts receive...

... and quickly invite all of the users who liked the post to also like your page?

It's a great way to quickly increase your Facebook audience - and it's a simple enough method that even your beginning interns should be able to knock it out without difficulty.

Here's to growth!

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 7/11/16

Winners of the Week:
Do604 + DoLA!

Last week, three separate metros had more audience reach than ever before. We'll give each their due below:
  • DoLA: The first of the Twilight Concert Series Events kicked off last week, and it's already leaving 2015 in the dust. Last year, the most popular TCS event got 15K sessions and a little over 4K RSVPs. This year? Triple that, with 40K sessions and12K+ RSVPs. Big increases came from email (which went from almost no traffic last year to 4K+ from their daily newsletter this year) and social (1.5K last year to 10K this year from Facebook and Twitter). All told, DoLA had yet again their highest week of traffic of all time and walked away with 7.5K new subscribers.

  • Do604: Of course, we're not only about the large metros. Do604 had their highest week of traffic since launch as well, thanks to the popularity of their Pemberton fest giveaway package in their email, their successful social promotion of Red Truck Concert Series, and a surprising amount of organic search from people looking for a Lil Yachty show. And while the ~4K sessions last week are nice, the 600+ subscribers from their fest giveaways are even sweeter, since they'll still be around when Lil Yachty has faded from our collective SoundCloud accounts.
And while it seemed the wrong sentiment to name them winner of the week, Eusebio's poignant post in the wake of the events in Dallas reached 2 million people looking for some words of reconciliation.

We'll leave off there for this week, but scan your updated stats below, and hit us with any questions on how you can capitalize on audience in the thick of summer:

Winners of the Week:
Daily Email Metros!

Happy Tuesday! Hopefully all continental US metros had a nice 3-day weekend. We'll pick up the standard weekly updates this coming Monday, but for the time being, we'll leave you with some highlights from our first comprehensive before-and-after report on the 6 metros sending daily emails:
  • Twice as many unique subscribers open at least one email per week on dailies compared to weeklies

  • Three to four times as many unique subscribers click at least one email per weekon dailies compared to weeklies.

  • Metros that switch to dailies receive 3-4X as much site traffic from email as they did on weeklies

  • Average unsubscribe rate per campaign is one-third lower when metros switch to dailies from weeklies

Take a look at the full data on the 6 metros that are sending daily emails and their performance post-transition compared to the same number of weeks prior to the switch. Then ask yourself if you're missing out on similar engagement fireworks in your market.

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 7/5/16
