How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 3/29/17

No comments:

Winner of the Week:
Do214 + Do317 + DTB

Whether you've got Lolla in your town, or a soccer match between some of Mexico's top teams in your town, there's a way to make it a win. Check it:
  • Do214: More often than not, winner of the week accolades ride in on the strength of big-impact partnerships like sweepstakes and RSVPs. But that belies the importance of being in the trenches working the queues, and making sure you're the best resource for everything going on in your city. In fact, last week the network had 146,735 people that viewed event pages. Of those, 64% of them were on event pages that did not have a giveaway or RSVP attached to them. All of that goes to show what a difference long tail traffic to event pages makes. What does that have to do with Do214 specifically? Well, sometimes you get lucky and one of those events that seems like any other long tail content blows up. And then there are a ton of people searching for it and you're the best content on the whole dang internet. That happened last week when Do214 received over 12K impressions for people searching for the Cruz Azul vs. Pumas Liga MX soccer game. For top queries like "cruz azul vs pumas dallas tx," there was humble Do214 occupying the top spot. And that's why you always list big events (even when they might not be 100% the first thing you think of as your content niche).
  • Do317 +DTB: Meanwhile, Indy featured their Lolla in Our Town list and had their highest single day of email traffic in over a year. It ain't rocket science. It's not even science. We build 'em. You put them in an email. People clickety click on it. Then Do317 gets to look at that satisfying green shading that comes with 100%+ YoY growth. Eight other metros did it to similar success (604DTBNYC214615206503, and 314). DTB event doubled down regionally with FYF in Our Town, their most popular email content in a week where they had higher YoY growth than any other metro. Eleven other metros missed out on the Lolla gift though. Lucky for them, we'll be periodically building these fest in your town lists and sending them to you throughout the year.
Digest the above, look at your stats below, and ask us questions. Then conquer your city this week:

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 3/21/17

Winner of the Week:
Do210 + Do512

Just like all of your exes, all of this week's winners live in Texas. BUT WAIT - lest ye be tempted to skip over the rolled up network data and go straight to your metro...last week was the first time in DoStuff history that combined traffic to all sites crossed 500,000 sessions! So give yourself a hearty pat on the back for contributing to a monumental landmark. Now about those couple of Texas metros:
  • Do210: San Antonio had by far their highest week of traffic of all time thanks to the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair's popularity on multiple channels. The flood gates opened thanks to this post shared by the event's official Facebook page to its 87K+ followers. That event also generated a spike of organic traffic to the Market Square venue where it was taking place, to the tune of a thousand plus clicks to Do210 after searching for things like "Market Square events." Yet another example of how any relationship at all with large outdoor events or music awards can benefit your metro.
  • Do512: Of course, the network wouldn't be anywhere near the 500K mark if it weren't for Do512's 310K sessions last week at the height of SX. Other highlights outside of their main web offerings included the 50K+ app sessions that lasted over 7 minutes on average, and expanded Facebook live streaming of their SX events that generated over 25K+ video views. And that's not even including all the interaction on their clever video promo for the app, which they unveiled at the start of SX. After yet another year of the fest in the books, Do512 has earned a week of taking their own advice
Now that both SX and the 500K mark are in the rear view mirror, we'll be doing everything possible to blow past the next audience benchmarks (1 million?!) In the meantime, your stats from the week prior -

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 3/7/17

Winner of the Week:
Do317 + HazTJ

We've got organic success stretching from the Rust Belt to below the belt (if you're weird and consider the Rio Grande to be North America's belt). Idioms aside, check the full story below:
  1. Existing search volume
  2. Good on page-optimization (URL and page title feature search keyword, short description text that explains the list)
  3. Good content not readily available on other sites, some of which that gets pulled into site links on the search results page
  4. Links to the page from high domain authority sites, in this case, the official First Friday neighborhood site
  5. Low to moderate competition from other sites for the searched content (second highest ranking page in search is a related Facebook location)

Put it all together, and Do317 ranks first when people search for First Friday events. Which may not seem like much, but it was good enough for 11K+ people landing on that page last year, making it their 7th most popular page in 2016.
  • HazTJ: Tijuana had their highest week of traffic in over 4 months thanks to the continued success of their organic traffic to event pages (Reik was last week's leader) and an added boost thanks to the Facebook popularity of their Maluma show announce
Want tips on building out the right organic content? Or Facebook boosting? Or just want to kick around some audience growth ideas you've got? We're only an email away. And last week's numbers? They're just a click away -

How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 3/1/17

Winner of the Week:
Do314 + Do512 + DoSD

Some weeks are winner-revolutionary, but this week's winners are all extending previous weeks' wins into future gains. And while maybe not as fun as content around tacosweed, or...uh..the Drankgon, it does prove that the right timely email content or platform partnership can continue delivering results way past the initial win. To wit:
  • Do314: Another week, another high water mark for St. Louis, as they had their highest ever week of site traffic and doubled last year's number. Most of the credit goes to their content-rich Mardi Gras guide, which received the most clicks out of any of their email content for the week. Other Mardi Gras content has been a win for St. Louis recently, and it's one of those holidays along the lines of Halloween and New Years that's right in our "going out and partying" niche. Take note from 314's example and do likewise.

  • Do512: Austin is on to some dy-no-mite traffic thanks again to their first SX lead-up on daily emails. Site traffic is up 43% from last year, which is no small achievement given their traffic volume and market maturity. More impressive than their 144% YoY increase in email traffic is their 50% increase in week-over-week email traffic. That's right. Same email list, one week later, 10K+ more sessions. Big winners were of course SX announcements and insider tips, but pieces like their always popular crawfish list and Chappelle announce (insanely share-worthy on all channels) weren't far behind. Congrats to the 512 crew on their highest weekly email CTR since switching to daily, and we're excited for even bigger things in the next 10 days leading up to the fest! And if you haven't checked out SX in the app, do yourself a favor and give it a whirl.

  • DoSD: Voting for the San Diego Music awards wrapped on Sunday, which DoSD has to thank for their 2nd highest week of traffic since launch. Once again, 70% of that traffic came directly through a link on the official awards show page, with the remaining traffic filtering through successive FB posts urging people to vote before the deadline. So now, the event that drove them to success when it was announced more than a month ago, is currently responsible for 17K sessions and 45% of DoSD's traffic in 2017.
Check out last week's stats have a most excellent end to this week:
