What DoStuff's Doing: Making Radness

It's JUNE and summer is here (well, it arrived a while ago for us here in Austin), which means fun in the sun, festivities, and feeling a bit more free. Despite the dozens of seasonal distractions, we've been working hard at DoStuff these past few weeks. Radmin is nearly ready for testing, new ECPs are being built, and fests are launching. Additionally, we have some exciting network wins to share on the program, editorial, and team fronts.

Dive into the details below.

Radmin

Last Summit, we introduced to you our plans to overhaul your current Admin to build a better, faster, dare-we-say-sexier Admin that we call Radmin. Yes, a CMS can be sexy. And while we appreciate our current muddy pink-and-green Admin for all that it has done for us these past few years, it is about time we move on.

We will begin testing the built components with a selection of you all this week. Here is a sneak peak:

-Pending Queue-

  • The mantra of content management has been speed + accuracy + completeness so that CMs can work most efficiently through the queues to build the most comprehensive event listing for your city. When redesigning the this area of Radmin, we wanted to help with accuracy by giving you more CONTROL + VISIBILITY.
  • More CONTROL = more accessible editing of what shows on the event page by folding media searches into the queue. You will be able to edit the band video attached to the event from the queue before it goes live!
  • More CONTROL = quick vote on the event from the queue with your special users and lists
  • More VISIBILITY = Red indicates no media attachments or 6+ months since last update. Green indicates the event has recently updated media and should be good to go.
  • More VISIBILITY = the queue automatically sorts by popularity based on that of the venue and attached bands
  • Overall, this will hugely improve the ease of content workflow and the quality of content on your site! It may take time to get used to and more time to actually clear the queue, but you will have done so much more in the process.

-Media Searches-

  • Clicking the attached band tag in the pending queue opens up a modal to display the current band media, if any, and the matched Facebook page.
  • Full display of the Facebook/YouTube data allows you to make an informed decision about the match.
  • Scroll through all Facebook images/YouTube videos to choose the best one.
  • Search by another terms if the results aren't the best match.

-Duplicates Queue-

  • The dupes queue will function similarly to how it currently does with the added media search features.
  • But changed data will be highlighted in red to make the choice to approve, update, or edit more obvious (not shown above).
  • The queue will load one event set at a time to encourage focus but will load the next event set Speedy Gonzalez fast!

Excited? So are we! Next on deck for Radmin: Ad Management & Reporting. We know that this section is in much need of overhaul and super priority for you all!

Other Product Updates

Our focus has been on Radmin, but our superstar devs have also input needed fixes as they've come up the past two weeks. Those include:

  • Spam check on old ECPs - No m-o-r-e SPAM! The spam question is available to change in the ECP Admin dashboard.
  • Sass editor lock check - If you need to access your SASS editor and are prompted for the username/password, it is dostuff / dostuff
  • Tastemaker bug - There was a bug preventing your Tastemakers from displaying their badges on events listings and in the search flyout immediately. F-i-x-e-d!
  • Flickr changed some things around on us, which prevented images from loading on your photo pages, but we updated things on our end so they do display.
  • Truncate details check - If you uncheck truncate event details in Admin, the event will no longer revert back to the truncate details setting.
  • New ECPs Lists - You can now provide your ECPs on the new platform a list of their registered users and an opt-in email list.

RadCP and Radstivals

You all have had so many requests for the new ECP platform that we've expanded the pool of designers available to do the matchup process. There are quite a few in the queue across the network as well as lenses in the works, and they're all going to be rad.

Festivals are getting launched left and right. GovBall (doNYC), Field Trip (Do416), Forecastle, Spring Awakening (Do312), Taste of Randolph (Do312), and Capitol Hill Block Party (Do206) all launched their schedules.

Yesterday, Lolla launched their Aftershows page on Do312.

  • Do312 pageviews Monday? 13,000+
  • Do312 pageviews yesterday? 260,000+... Now that is a stellar stat.

RadBD

We have begun regular NBD weekly calls so that DoStuff can sync with you all regarding prospective and current partnerships. The purpose is to clearly communicate where we are at, where you all are at, what our plans are, brainstorm program ideas, and provide a forum for any questions. With the second meeting down, we have started to archive the agenda with additional notes from the meeting included so that you can reference in the future or catch up if you miss a call. Check it out!

Some updates:
  • Google/Zagat wants to move forward with campaigns in 3 more cities: Dallas, Boston, and Seattle. More to come this summer.
  • Connectivity is ready to implement the Lone Star program we're running in Texas with our East Coast metros.
You all keep partying through program delivery!
Do317 Pabst Party

Do317 Pabst Tower Master
Do512 Pabst + Lonestar + Good Times
  • The Future Folk Tour is about to kick off with our big announcement set for June 11. Sneak peak on promo:
Geographical accuracy aside (they're rockstar aliens after all), sweet map.

RadLearning

We continue to add to LearnStuff to get you comprehensive and timely information for all your DoXXX needs. Check out some recently added stuff:

Have a suggestion? Something to add to an article or a whole article you think would be helpful? Let us know!

Network Radness

A recent trend among you all is "Must Do" lists:
  • Do214 launched a Red Bull sponsored page to list sweet lake activities. Check out the way Red Bull is integrated seamlessly! It's gotten nearly 3,000 pageviews and was the 4th most popular page.

  • Do512 showcases a list of the top things to do in Austin, from a swim in Barton Spring to BBQ at Salt Lick. People LOVE lists, and this one is no exception: it received nearly 6,000 pageviews and ranked as the 11th most popular page on the site the week that it first went live.

Also of note in favor of list building: 6 of the top 10 most popular pages now on Do512 are lists! That is more than half and so HUGE. Need more convincing or need more list ideas? The possibilities are endless...

Welcomes & Farewells

We have some exciting additions and sad goodbyes to share in the DoStuff family! Katy Meacham officially joined Do415 as GM a few weeks ago, and Carmen will be leaving to pursue her dreams in LA.

Do512 sent Matt Bradshaw on his way in style this week after 3 solid years to pursue music fulltime and tour Wild Child. Check out the video below of his performance with Wild Child on The Late Show with Craig Ferguson. He's famous already! In his stead, Ben Williams joined Do512 this Monday. Ben has been around Do512 for a while (see below: bouncer extraordinaire) and though he used to be a country music DJ in high school and could tell you more than you want to know about Kenny Chesney, he is also the most skilled white karaoke rapper to have performed the Do512 Lounge.

Do210 officially hired their GM. Matt Wolff comes from a music background and strong relationships in San Antonio's scene. Now onto finding a killer CM!

We have some change-ups here at HQ as well. Mollie Brown has joined the NBD team to help craft pitches, build processes, and cultivate our nascent marketing efforts. She recently moved to Austin from NYC where she worked at The Orchard in Corporate Marketing. And sadly, I (Katie/KO Deux) will be leaving DoStuff this week. It has been an amazing 2 years, but the time has come for me to pursue new things, namely grad school. I am thankful to all of you for being part of my DoStuff experience and will keep in touch!

Happy summer! Hearts<3s, star****s, and lots of LOVE :)
