How You (and the network) Did Last Week - 1/19/17

Winner of the Week:
So many metros!

As Aaron Lewis would say, it's been awhile. But in the month off from KPI reports, we've had more wins than you can shake a stick at. Settle in for a curated list of metro inspiration and the most bigly Winner of the Week edition ever:
  • Do206: Capping off a month that saw several social media wins, starting with the 30K reach of their 12days post to some virality of Hendrix as snowman, Do206 marked their highest reach ever at the end of December thanks to their Carrie Fisher lightsaber post. It exploded on Facebook to the tune of a 19K shares and an insane 2.6M organic reach, and had similar success on Twitter and Instagram. Haven't checked out Do206's socials in a while? They've been killing it with some great out-and-about pics and vids thanks to Matt, Austin, and various other photographer buds from around town (peep thisthis, and this).

  • Do214/Do416: Lest ye be tempted to not feature [high-profile fest] in your town pages, Dallas led their subject line on January 3rd with Coachella (subject line of "Coachella in Dallas") and easily scored their highest single day of email traffic...of all time. Toronto did the exact same thing and hit their highest email traffic in 9 months. Several other metros followed suit. Doesn't get much better than that for a content piece that takes you exactly zero minutes to build.

  • Do250: Victoria had their highest week of traffic in over 7 months thanks to the success of their #FEST250 instagram contest. The photo challenge included an on-site voting component for the chance to win a fest prize pack. Traffic was split evenly between their announce email and a groundswell from FB, not to mention the actual 442 IG posts sporting their hashtag. Yet another creative fest contesting idea coming from the hinterlands of BC.

  • Do314/Do317: Both saw their highest week of traffic of all time thanks to the steadily growing primarily organic, but also social and email, popularity of their respective NYEpages.

  • Do502/DoTheBay: Borrowing an idea from a popular Do314 piece, Do502 had their highest day of organic traffic in more than a year thanks to the mildly terrifying amount of people searching for cheap tattoos and landing on this Friday the 13th tattoo deals page. On the other side of the country, DoTheBay was celebrating the 13th quite differently - by kicking off their very first DoTheBay Sessions, a series of filmed live acoustic performances in their space, sponsored by Tsingtao.

  • Do512/Do503: Austin saw their highest ever week of non-SX traffic by far thanks to the confluence of both NYE content and their even more popular RIP list/people losing their shit about condos list. Portland followed suit with the highest form of flattery and their most successful content for the month.

  • Do615/Do617/DoNYC: One more metro hit a record week of traffic after Nashville was helped out by the aforementioned Friday the 13th content, and then pushed over the top by their Bonnaroo lineup/giveaway announce. The referral system continues to pay dividends, as more people visited the giveaway from friends sharing it than did via any of 615's owned channels. All told, Do615 saw 5X YoY traffic. The same power of referral landed Boston their second highest week of traffic in a year thanks to a pair of tickets to the sold out U2 show. And along the lines of fest announces, DoNYC hit 3x YoY email traffic in the past two weeks thanks to their unveiling of 3 fest lineups and giveaways during that time (including out of market fests like Coachella).
Steal a few of the dozen or so ideas above, and have yourself a kick ass start to 2017. We're excited for big things to come (including some improvements in the tools you have to measure audience growth).
